Sci-Fi Party Line #208 Star Wars: The Force Awakens Teaser

“OMG, he looks like a Baby Denzel Washington!”
– Cat (@fancyfembot)

“I thought it was a giant pregnancy test.”
– Stephanie (@stephbystereo)

“He apparently had some sort of exhaust problem with his light saber.”
– Carl (@robominister)

It’s only 88 seconds long but Cat, Stephanie, and Carl talked about the brand spanking new Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer for an entire hour! We go frame-by-frame… well at least Cat tries to wrangle Carl & Stephanie to stay on topic as it took a lot of effort to coax them out of their Thanksgiving tryptophan coma.

-Star Wars trailer, meh. I’ve been excited before after seeing Star Wars trailers but the Phantom Menace showed me not to be.

-Thought the idea was prequel trilogy is pre-war so things are shinier and newer. Original trilogy, rebels been thru years of war so they’re a bit dirty, while the Empire is still getting money and fresh troops so they look cleaner. Didn’t really see too much to indicate who’s in control.

-So this is suppose to be 30 years after “Return of the Jedi, is the Empire still in command or is this like in the Expanded Universe where rebels took over and established the New Republic and Empire loyalists pop up from time to time trying to take over like comic book Nazis?

-Wedge survived all 3 movies and had a starring role in an Expanded Universe comic called Star Wars: X-wing Rogue Squadron where he was the head pilot of the squad.

-The “waste spillage” I think are sword guards, the hilt on most swords have them to protect your hands. I’ve wondered why more light saber fights didn’t end with 1 hand sliced up. When I was a kid playing lightsabers my move (until everyone was trying to be the first to do it) was slid down my opponent’s saber and hit their hand hard. Makes sense the guards would be made of something that can deflect a lightsaber beam as Stephen explains-

-I’ve been so absent from the Star Wars universe for so long (couldn’t get past watching more than a few minutes of prequel 2 and 3 before I just had better things to do), when they said “dark side” I thought they meant “Darkseid” from DC Comics. Omega beam vs. Lightsabers.

    -Happy Holidays

-Thought I had posted this back in December, sorry for the delay.
