Sci-Fi Party Line #169 #AfterDark Heroes Reborn, Ghostbusters, Cosmos, Farscape, Helix, Terminator: Genesis

heroes-reborn

“I BELIEVE IN HEROES REBORN!!!”
– Carl (@robominister)

“This is like you had this really nice boyfriend and he was nice to you for the first two years. Then he beat you, cut your leg off, and took you to a creepy carnival.”
– Cat (@fancyfembot)

“There were good things about Nemesis!”
– Cat (@fancyfembot)

“Does being legless negate make-up sex?”
-Eric (@BullittWHO)

“Out of the Sarengeti! RIDE THE ZEBRA!”
– Carl (@robominister)

Welcome to Sci-Fi Party Line After Dark. Carl is rocking the eye patch. Cat is rocking the bowling shoes. Eric is rocking the Jim Beam Maple.

Carl defends Heroes Reborn. Cat tries to bring sanity to the episode and explains to him why he is wrong; as usual. We discuss the passing GhostbustersHarold Ramis. You may be surprised at Carl’s reaction to the Matrix prequel news. Carl tries to sell us on a Matrix fan film; Kaydara. Cat is excited about an opportunity associated with Netflix’s Marvel The Defenders in NYC. Again, they both agree on their apprehension for CW’s iZombie. Carl is SUPER PUMPED about M. Night’s new micro-budget vampire film. Eric the Sad Hobo joins the episode live from a bar. After they update him on the conversation, all of them agree and are anticipating Cosmos: A Space Odyssey. They talk about the Being Human/ Almost Human cancellation confusion. Carl professes his love and disappointment in Jeri Ryan’s appearance on Helix. There is some awkward bar bathroom stall talk but Cat rescued the situation by talking about the new Farscape spin-off film. Cat is also concerned about Spider-Man fatigue with the Sony announcement that they want to release a Spider-Man movie every year including Venom & The Sinister 6. They bring up the racial controversy about the Fantastic Four casting but decided they didn’t care. The Gotham TV show is curious creation but the crew seems to adopt a wait-and-see attitude. They don’t care about Jessie Eisenberg being cast as Lex Luthor after the Ben Affleck Batman Man of Steel announcement. Transformers 4 with Marky Mark makes Carl look like a hypocrite for defending Heroes Reborn. Cat is thrilled about Terminator: Genesis, Carl is skeptical, and Eric is confused about what genesis means. They wrap up the episode with more Almost Human discussion.

24: Live Another Day.

Sci-Fi Party Line #100 Madness in podcast form

“It’s a sci-fi gumbo of a lot of things from yesteryear kind of thrown in and left to simmer.”
-Eric (@BullittWHO) on ‘Super 8’.

Eric: Does anyone know who played the alien?
Carl (@robotcast): Probably the same person who played ‘Cloverfield’.

“My mouth said Bill Gates but my heart says Steve Jobs.”
-Cat (@fancyfembot) on her ‘Pirates of Silicon Valley’ flub.

“My take on the movie is that it was like ‘Inception’ if it was told by an idiot.”
-Will (@LW_Will) on ‘Sucker Punch’.

“The best part of ‘Transformers 3’ was the ‘Captain America’ trailer.”
-Charles (@hal2814)

This is our craziest show yet!

For the 100th show, we did a live episode with nine voice participants and a handful of chat participants via Talkshoe. It was a verbal Road Warrior-styled discussion that was the most fun we’ve had on Sci-Fi Party Line history. The guests were the usual suspects of Carl, Eric, Will, Darrell, Hanako, Alex, Charles and Phineas. Thanks to some of the folks in the chat room: Merlin, Datalore, Willisgirl, Becky and more.

Today’s vocabulary words are schmaltz and Benetton.

There were some audio issues in places but power through it, they go away. We tried to be PG-13 but it ended up being R. We talked about and spoiled Super 8, X-Men: First Class (and how the “black man” always dies first), Thor, Falling Skies, Game of Thrones, Caprica, True Blood and Camelot. We mentioned Transformers 3 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows but did not spoil them. There were side discussions about The Uncanny X-Men, Michael Ironside, pickup trucks and old man Carl shows up.

Prepare for CatConOne in 2020. Easter egg at the end for those who were there.

Thank you all for helping us get to 100 episodes!

Sci-Fi Party Line #89 Farewell Caprica

“It took too long for Daniel to discover that Zoe was inside the robot. Zoe was calling friends, ordering pizza. No one knew that this robot was walking around the house.”
-Darrell (@thevoice123)

Today’s crew is Carl, Darrell and Cat. We discuss the final five episodes of Caprica. We read an awesome comment from Stephanie Krueger from the last episode. I get Darrell to explain why he thinks Haven is better than Caprica. We, of course, rant about SyFy and the state of science fiction on television. There are also tidbits on Earth 2, the Stargate franchise, Falling Skies, The Walking Dead ratings, Star Trek and Rick Berman. There’s a special yet torturous treat at the end.

Sci-Fi Party Line #83 RIP Caprica, YAY Stargate: Universe

“Robert Knepper needs a hug.”
-Cat (@fancyfembot)

Still congested and medicated Cat and Carl discuss the demise of Caprica and the death threat of Fringe‘s move to Friday night. At last, we have something positive to say about Stargate: Universe while also putting it on deathwatch.

Sci-Fi Party Line #81 SGU, Caprica, No Ordinary Family, Fringe

“They are redefining science fiction where it’s not about science or that space stuff, it’s really about the interpersonal relationships of the people involved… with wrestling.”
-Carl (@robotcast)

Carl joins me to discuss his adventures at DragonCon. He talks about costumes, lines, Ghostbuster population and meeting Pierre Bernard from Recliner of Rage.

We also discuss Stargate Universe, Caprica, No Ordinary Family and Fringe. No episode with Carl would be complete without a dig at The Event, a mention of Sad Hobo and Agent Jessup.

Here is the LONG line that Carl talked about. If I have to stand in that line, I’m never going to DragonCon. I couldn’t handle it.

Closing out the show is Ace Frehley‘s ‘Outerspace’… I’m still not sure how that song got in my iTunes collection.

Out with the old, in the with the new. In this episode we bid farwell to Battlestar Galactica as we review the show’s swan song: The Plan. Moving on we discuss our first reactions to the Caprica pilot story. It goes without saying that this podcast contains frakkin’ spoilers, so say we all!

Playing out today’s episode is the original classic Battlestar Galactica theme composed by Stu Phillips which can be found on the original 1978 BSG soundtrack. It features a narration, spoken by Patrick Macnee.

On 1.31.10 we just discovered this awesome Bohemian Rhapsody parody by The Great Luke Ski: Battlestar Rhapsody. (via @SciFiHeaven)
