Sci-Fi Party Line #109 Fright Night

-Steph (NiNi) (@stephbystereo)

“To me, Fright Night feels like The Lost Boys meets American Psycho.”
-Cat (@fancyfembot)

Girl show! Steph joins Cat and they have loads of fun. They start with Nightmare on Elm Street then get to the main event: the movie review of Fright Night. Cat’s new found love for Colin Farrell has her excited about the new Total Recall (24:12). Total Recall leads to a discussion about The Lost Boys and the other two Lost Boys films that you may not have heard of or seen. Of course Steph took a minute to wax poetic about Apollo 18. Steph also gives our first Sci-Fi Party Line orgasm. You won’t believe what it was in response to. Later in the show Steph tries to sell Cat on Paranormal Activity and Ghost Hunters (57:25). We’ll let you guess how that went. Cat reveals that she will be attending another viewing of Evil Dead: The Musical this for Halloween this year (56:35). The show ends with song from the soundtrack of Evil Dead: The Musical, “Do the Necronomicon”.

Sci-Fi Party Line #100 Madness in podcast form

“It’s a sci-fi gumbo of a lot of things from yesteryear kind of thrown in and left to simmer.”
-Eric (@BullittWHO) on ‘Super 8’.

Eric: Does anyone know who played the alien?
Carl (@robotcast): Probably the same person who played ‘Cloverfield’.

“My mouth said Bill Gates but my heart says Steve Jobs.”
-Cat (@fancyfembot) on her ‘Pirates of Silicon Valley’ flub.

“My take on the movie is that it was like ‘Inception’ if it was told by an idiot.”
-Will (@LW_Will) on ‘Sucker Punch’.

“The best part of ‘Transformers 3’ was the ‘Captain America’ trailer.”
-Charles (@hal2814)

This is our craziest show yet!

For the 100th show, we did a live episode with nine voice participants and a handful of chat participants via Talkshoe. It was a verbal Road Warrior-styled discussion that was the most fun we’ve had on Sci-Fi Party Line history. The guests were the usual suspects of Carl, Eric, Will, Darrell, Hanako, Alex, Charles and Phineas. Thanks to some of the folks in the chat room: Merlin, Datalore, Willisgirl, Becky and more.

Today’s vocabulary words are schmaltz and Benetton.

There were some audio issues in places but power through it, they go away. We tried to be PG-13 but it ended up being R. We talked about and spoiled Super 8, X-Men: First Class (and how the “black man” always dies first), Thor, Falling Skies, Game of Thrones, Caprica, True Blood and Camelot. We mentioned Transformers 3 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows but did not spoil them. There were side discussions about The Uncanny X-Men, Michael Ironside, pickup trucks and old man Carl shows up.

Prepare for CatConOne in 2020. Easter egg at the end for those who were there.

Thank you all for helping us get to 100 episodes!
