Sci-Fi Party Line #118 In Time, 2nd Annual Sci-Fi Turd Off, A Look at 2012

“The turds will be minimally turdage, not the ones that inflicted the full bowel of last year.”
-Carl (@robominister) on our Annual Sci-Fi Turd Off

“Every movie is not supposed to be Americanized and wrapped and chewed up and regurgitated and fed to you like a baby bird.”
-Cat (@fancyfembot) on Sucker Punch

“Aliens that use lassos bother me. When you got space ships using grappling hooks; that offends me… You can defy gravity, you get all the way here and you are going to rope people?”
-Carl (@robominister) on Cowboys & Aliens

It’s the end of the year and we have a two-hour show jam packed full of the best and worst science fiction TV shows and movies of the year. Today’s crew is Cat and Carl. We kick off the show with the barely promoted In Time. After that we give the rules for our Second Annual Sci-Fi Turd Off (@15:51). We do a brief review of Cowboys & Aliens (@23:38) prior to putting Cowboys & Aliens and Transformers: Dark of the Moon head to head in this year’s Turd Off (@42:25). We cool off by talking about our favorite sci-fi movies of the year (@1:04:19) but get agitated again by discussing the sci-fi TV turds of the year (@1:15:40). We couldn’t end the show without a mention of SyFy’s holiday specials for Eureka, Warehouse 13, and Haven (@1:32:40). Finally, we wrap up by discussing the movies that we are anticipating in 2012 (@1:36:08).

Thank you all for a wonderful year. It wouldn’t be fun without YOU, the listeners!

Sci-Fi Party Line #76 Eureka (Blinded By Science Version)

“Nathan Stark returning is almost as good as Christopher Eccleston returning as The Doctor for me.”
-Cat (@fancyfembot)

Will (@LW_Will) returns and we are joined by a SFPL newbie Steve (@cyberauron). Today we discuss the latest developments on one of Cat’s favorite shows, Eureka. There is nerd squeeing about everything from Henry’s serenade to Grace and Nathan Stark’s return to androids making love to self aware houses to Evil Wil Wheaton (@wilw). We also discuss the implications of the changed timeline reset and the Lupo/ Zane problem. Have your own nerdgasm about the Eureka at the end of the show.

Closing the show is Henry’s version of ‘She Blinded Me With Science‘.

Sci-Fi Party Line #72 Eureka, Warehouse 13, Haven

“We’re not unrelentingly hard on stuff. We’re not unfair. If you’re gonna bring us some crazy characters, if it’s gonna be funny and silly, if you hold our attention then every once in awhile we’ll let you slide on a bad Escher stair.”
-Carl (@robotcast)

In today’s episode, we discuss the season premieres of Warehouse 13, Eureka and Haven. Carl has issues with MacPherson’s name. Cat thinks Tess looks like a muppet and that Ed Quinn should get off his high-horse and return to Eureka. While trying to talk about Haven, the conversation devolves in to a rant about Erzi Dax on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Cat is a little excited about the upcoming Tiffany and Debbie Gibson Syfy Original Movie Mega Python Vs Gatoroid. We give you one guess on how Carl feels about it.

The crew is Carl (@robotcast) and Cat (@fancyfembot) and if you’ve seen the premieres of the shows, there are no spoilers beyond that. There is an outtake at the end.

The show ends with “Back in Time” by Huey Lewis and the News written for and featured in the 1985 film Back to the Future.
